Antica Locanda offers unique and gracious accommodation on Corso Il Rossellino, in the historic center of Pienza, just inside the eastern gate and less than 100 yards from the central square.

The four rooms (and two mini-apartments, each with a kitchenette in the living area and a separate bedroom) inhabit the 15th-century palazzo once used by the Papal Secretary, though recently renovated and filled with Tuscan antiques and peasant-style wrought-iron bed frames.

The largest rooms are "La Piazzetta" (overlooking Corso Rossellino) and "Pienza" (overlooking a private courtyard). Attic apartments "La Soffitta" and "Monticchiello" are smaller, with sloping ceilings of heavy wood beams, but overlook the town's roof tiles—and Monticchiello has a peek-a-boo view over the countryside to the nearby hamlet of Monticchiello.

Don't take the relatively low user ranking (7.7) too seriously; it's just been dragged down by people complaining that the breakfast is continental (packaged rolls and stovetop coffee) rather than buffet. Yes, this is a bit odd for a place classified as a "bed and breakfast"—but if you go there expecting that, you won't be disappointed.
