Salvatore Sturiale's restaurant is right on the main drag, but in the medieval part of town beyond the gate, so there's less of a log-jam of tourist traffic passing the shaded terrace fronting the street. The people-watching, however, is still great.
Although it looks awful touristy, Il Ciclope is actually quite good, serving delectable dishes such as rigatoni alla ciclope (just spicy enough with ham, tomatoes, hot and black peppers, and oil) and fettuccine con pescespada (with swordfish, olives, and pistachios).
For secondo, I;d go for veal: either the cuscinotto alla polifemo (a veal rolled with mozzarella, prosciutto, and mushrooms, breaded, and coated with an herbed cream sauce) or the bocconcini di vitellina alla turiddu (almost a veal stew, with olives, tomatoes, pancetta, onions, peperoncino, and basil).
