Da Abele

Tucked away into the Italian suburbs

Once you get away from the sights and shops of the city center, you'll find yourself in some middle-class neighborhoods. Da Abele is tucked away in one, in a pleasant enclave of shops and apartment houses east of Stazione Centrale and north of Corso Buenos Aires shopping strip (a few blocks north of Piazzale Loreto). This plain trattoria caters to local residents (hence it's evening-only hours—they take reservations only before 8:30; afterward it's first-come, first-served) and serves a nice selection of soups (including a hearty seafood zuppa di pesce) and many kinds of risotto, including one with frutti di mare (a selection of fresh seafood) and others with fresh porcini in season. The amiable staff doesn't mind if you venture no further into the menu, but if you do, there is a nice selection of roast meats as well.
