Els Quatre Gats ★★★

A great cafe and restaurant—that doubles as a classic of moderisme architeture—once favored by Picasso in Barcelona
This 1897 Art Nouveau cafe/restaurant was desigend by Modernisme master architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch and long served the legendary gathering place of Barcelona’s bohemians and modernisme intellectuals, the place where frequent patron Picasso once displayed his works.
The set-price, three-course lunch menu (served 1–4pm only) is one of the city’s best values at €16 (the more gourmet version on Saturdays is €24), with an unusually broad selection of dishes based on whatever is most fresh at the market that day. A la carte prices, though, are creeping up, and service can be quite scatterbrained.
Some evenings, a live pianist pounds out standards; in August, there's live jazz on Tuesdays.
