Getting around Amsterdam by taxi
Amsterdam is best traveled on foot, by tram, or on a bicycle, but getting you and your bags to and from the airport might be easier in a taxi (though a private transfer service is cheaper).
How much is a taxi in Amsterdam?
However, taxis in Amsterdam are insanely expensive. The initial charge for up to 2 km is a steep €7.50 ($10.80), plus €2.20 ($3.08) for each additional kilometer. Here are some actual fares:
- From Centraal Station to Leidesplein: €9.45 ($13.60)
- From Centraal Station to the Van Gogh Museum/Museumplein: €12.60 ($18)
- To or from Schiphol aiport: $42 ($61)
How do I find a taxi in Amsterdam?
You don't hail a cab on the street in Amsterdam; you must go to a fixed taxi rank, of which there are 50 around the city, including at the Dam, Leidseplein, Rembrandtplein, and Centraal Station.
There are also taxi stands in front of most major hotels.
